From 8.30 am on Thursday the 26th January, Kingfisher Business Centre will be hosting one of its monthly Coffee Mornings and the launch where we will be inviting everyone to take a quick tour of the new space next door.  Over 30 people attended last months coffee morning, so its also a great opportunity to guage what is happening in the local business community.

As well being able to view the units you can also take a look at Kingfishers Meeting Rooms and Conference facilities which are available on an hourly basis. The centre is a 2 minute walk from the Town Centre and has ample FREE parking as well as all the facilities you would expect when hosting a meeting or conference.

Soulmate Food based at Hugh Business Park in Waterfoot received recognition last night for their business achievements here in Rossendale. Sponsored by Kingfisher Business Centres in Rawtenstall, the award was shortlisted to three candidates, Thomson FM, CVi Talent and Soulmate Food.

Thomson FM are Facility Managers who have grown the business from a “one man band” to a dedicated but flexible team of 4. From offices based at St Mary’s Chambers, Rawtenstall they tailor make solutions to fit the individuality of their clients with much of their business being “repeat business” demonstrating an ability to satisfy clients again and again.

CVi Talent offers a business website that was set up by a couple and is aimed at people struggling to find work, and represents a new method for employers to view more detailed information about a candidate and a fantastic new way for candidates to showcase their careers and works to employers and agencies.

Soulmate Food was set up from a bedroom 3 years ago after the concept was created after travelling in America at a time when the diet delivery system was just taking off there. B & E Boys have started offering their wood waste for the increasing number of households that have wood burning stoves.

The construction industry has to complete Site Waste Management Plans on many of the projects it undertakes in order that waste is prevented, minimised and recycled. The Company already recycles card, plaster materials, metal and surplus construction materials. As well as this all staff at the Company receive information and training to ensure the correct amount of materials are bought through our buying department, who then ensure that the minimum amount of packaging is used, and that we utilise surplus materials from other projects thus preventing waste. When the company does incur waste materials that have to be disposed of then we use compactors to help reduce the amount of transportation required to take this to landfill.

The Company also carefully manages transportation of staff and materials to site to minimise the effect of its activities on the environment. This all forms part of the Company’s accreditation to the internationally recognised ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.

As from September the company is further trying to reduce its waste streams by offering waste packaging wood which will be cut up and bagged for use in wood burning stoves.

In construction, bulky items are often delivered on wood pallets for ease of transportation and movement around the site. Whilst the Company re-uses many of these pallets, eventually they become damaged beyond repair or unsafe to use.

TV celebrity calls in on Kingfisher.

Famous north west television presenter Stuart Hall called in at Kingfisher yesterday on the Invite of tenant Rob Hallam of CBBC’s Prank Patrol.

Stuart Hall is well known amongst people ‘of a certain age’ for his comical hosting of the slapstic tv show ‘It’s a Knockout’, although he has hosted many sports and news programmes over his illustrious career.

Rob Hallum now works as a partner in Optu, offering atheletes training in preparation for media interaction, as well as running his own company Bigtank’ specialising in high octane, multi camera sporting events for the ITV networks.

In the picture with Stuart is Garry Pickles of On Line Media Direct, internet marketing specialist.

Garry works in the same office as Optu so was quick not to miss a photo opportunity with the TV legend!

Kingfisher Rawtenstall recently had Solar Panels installed – or Photo Voltaic cells and are now able to generate part of the electricity required to run the Serviced Office Space.

With rising energy prices Kingfisher were keen to protect their tenants from increasing financial pressure of rising electricity bills. Taking advantage of the new Feed In Tariff means the centre can now reduce the amount of electricity bought in ensuring that bills do not get any higher.

The £20,000 investment should pay for itself in under 10 years thanks to grant funding for low carbon energy generation.

Kingfisher which is part of the Boys Group of Companies is home to the first renewable energy project undertaken by the Group. Boys also have planning permission and Environment Agency licenses for a Hydro Turbine on the bank of the River Roche which bounds the J2 Business Park site. It is hoped that this project will be underway later in the year.

Kingfisher Business Centre, Rawtenstall hosted its first breakfast meeting of the new year on Wednesday to encourage tenants to get to know each other and perhaps create new opportunities for business. After the success of Novembers Breakfast meeting Kingfisher have decided to run the meetings on a monthly basis as well as promoting the new “Showcases” in the Conference room.

Steve and Rob at Optu suggested the showcase events and were brave enough to set the ball rolling with their presentation to other tenants about their business and what they do. Optu cover a whole package of media work including media training for successful athletes. Kingfisher are offering free use of the Conference Room to encourage tenants to “Showcase” their business in the hope of creating business opportunity. If nothing else it’s a great platform to brush up on their sales pitch and gain useful ideas. As well as other tenants B & E Boys who own Kingfisher Business Centres are inviting their contacts and other similar business from their industrial and commercial property portfolio. The leader of the Council Tony Swain and Councillor Lynsky were kind enough to attend Optus show case and other Council Chiefs are keen to attend and learn more about businesses here in Rossendale.
