B and E Boys are pleased to hand over another quality project thanks to everyones efforts in the Construction team.

The Head Teacher, Mr Mike Spinks is delighted with the end result and thanked John Finnegan and Contracts Director Neil Conlon for all their hard work and effort on a technically demanding project.

The internal space will be utilised as teaching space on the first floor and a conference facility on the ground floor. The architects, Equilibrium Design, came up with a stunning concept which has been coverted into reality as can be seen from the photos above. The building is tucked away in a courtyard and has oodles of Wow factor as you turn the corner!

The school instructed Boys on further work to upgarde the courtyard to maximise the visual impact of the scheme. The project was still completed on time and on budget.

B and E Boys have a long history of work in education as Main Contractor with work undertaken at Bury Grammar School, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, Manchester University, Emmanuel Holcolme School, Blackburn College, and are currently on site at Stockport School.

The company has over 50 years experience in construction working for local authorities, public and private health care clients as well as private sector industrial and commercial work undertaking all types of construction from new build to renovation work. B and E Boys have also been building new homes throughout the region for over 40 years.

B and E Boys have just agreed a lease with the RSPCA for a new distribution hub for their charity retail outlets in the North West. The Wood Street site is along side Crostons Retail Park which is home to B&Q, Home Bargains, and Poundstretcher.

The Wood Street business park is also home to Space Self Store, Sillivan Metal Polishers, a self service car wash facility as well as a number of dance studios and martial arts centre.

B and E Boys have previously agreed terms for a charity retail outlet with the RSPCA. The Company has also seen a number of its tenants expand in the last few months and has been working with them to facilitate growth into additional work space.

Although a relatively small scheme the construction process is complicated by the fact that it is in a live school environment with restricted access and in two locations requiring careful consideration both from a construction methodology and health and safety perspective. B and E Boys have many years experience of working along side educational establishments to ensure that projects are delivered on time without putting pupils and staff at risk.

The new classrooms and drama studio at Stockport School, are of traditional construction and existing services will be extended to serve to the two areas although final connection work will be done out of hours to ensure school activities can continue without interruption.

B & E Boys have worked with Stockport MBC on previously on schemes such as Norris Bank Primary School. B & E Boys have been nominated to work for a number of local authorities and are currently on site with Bury Metro Council completing the Goshen Gymnastics Centre.

As well as Education the Company also undertakes work in Healthcare for both public and private sector organisations.

New Cricket Pavilion opened by former England and Lancashire cricketer Neil Fairbrother.

This fantastic new facility provides modern changing rooms, a social room and disabled access for all the sports teams based at the Irlam ground.  The seven acre site, off Liverpool Road in Irlam, is home to Irlam Cricket Club, three senior Irlam Steel football teams, several bowling teams as well as hosting darts, dominoes and snooker.

B and E Boys have just completed the construction of the new pavilion which was made possible thanks to funding from the Hamilton Davies Trust and theEnglandand Wales Cricket Board (ECB).  The old pavilion was in need of improvement and when Irlam Cricket Club achieved ECB Clubmark status they approached the ECB for support.  A local charity, The Hamilton Davies Trust, also agreed to support the project due to the benefit it will give to such a wide variety of sports in the Irlam and Cadishead area.  The total cost will be in the region of £390,000 with £250,000 being provided by The Hamilton Davies Trust, £121,000 from the ECB and the remainder coming from the Irlam Steel Recreation and Social Club and local fundraising.

B & E Boys have undertaken a number of sport related construction projects and are currently completing Goshen Gymnastics Centre for Bury Metro Council.

Conservatory Roof venture takes up industrial space at Bolton Point Bolton.

PCL (Phil Coppell Limited) who occupy 9,700 sqft  at B & E Boys site at Cuba Industrial Estate in Ramsbottom have just signed up with a new venture taking 8,000 sq ft of space at Bolton Point at Waters Meeting.

Although a new venture, it’s still in familiar territory, namely conservatory roofs. This probably makes him uniquely qualified within the sector and it is to Wendland that he is turning withPCL, the new venture.  He is known to many in the conservatory industry and been involved in this industry for over 15 years being personally responsible for the fabrication of over 40,000 conservatory roofs in that time.  

This is Phil’s second stint with Wendland – it’s fair to say that whilst he was away using one of the other of the three brands, Wendland went through its own transition, as it joined Ultraframe as part of the Latium Group.

The Bolton site is better know for its former use serving the paper machinery industry and is the only site in Europer with the scale of foundry required to manufacture giant rollers them. Cuba Idustrial Estate in Stubbins is home to such tenants as TNT, Oasis Foster Care, Northern Parrots and Jet Chem Systems.

B & E Boys always work hard to ensure companies can grow within their Northwest portfolion of Industrial and Commercial property porfolio. The Waters Meeting site also has planning consent for a number large manufacturing facilities, as well as 40,000 sq ft of office which is ideal for call centre uses.

PCLis offering it’s services to retailers nationwide and has already received orders from lapsed customers and is actively re-introducing ex-Wendland users to his product/service.

Machine driver continues to work at the Boys.

Robert Tattersall or Bob as he’s known to the staff here at B and E Boys was 65 last week. Despite being the age of retirement Bob is keen to continue to work at the Company as an experienced and valued machine driver.

Usually the tradition is to present staff who are retiring with a carriage clock – but knowing Bob wanted to keep “his hand in” the Boys presented him with a remote control excavator on a commemorative stand. Bob has worked on excavators all his life and for many years at the Company, but we were keen to make sure he continues to practice in his spare time.

Bob was also presented with a bouquet of flowers for Mrs Tattersall – as the saying goes..”Behind every good man is an even better woman”

Bob has worked extremely hard for B and E Boys and has been a fantastic ambassador for the Company. He has worked on many projects on excavators that involve the site preparation and digging of foundations, as well as grading of land and levelling of sites to name a few of his many talents. We are all happy that Bob can continue to work at the Company and we are sure he will continue to pass on his wealth of knowledge and experience to fellow machine drivers.

B and E Boys are shortlisted by the RICS for prestigeous North West award.

The restoration of Village Farmhouse, at Dunham Massey, Altrincham was completed by B & E Boys in 2011, after being appointed as the Main Contractor for The National Trust. The Royal Institute of Building Surveyors have selected the project from a large number of projects submitted and will soon be visiting the site before making their final decision.

B and E Boys undertook a full interior strip out of the property which then had new mechanical and electrical services before being re-plastered,  before having the benefit of a new kitchen, and four new bathrooms.

Care needed to be taken whilst carrying out the interior strip out as The National Trust wanted to retain two feature alcoves which were in excess of 200 years old.

The property then benefited from full interior redecoration and flooring. The exterior of the property was fully re-roofed and re-pointed. External landscaping of the surrounding gardens finished this property refurbishment to a high standard.

B & E Boys has 50 years of experience working on historic and Grade 1 and 2 listed properties such as Townley Hall Burnley, St Marys Chambers in Rawtenstall and Toll Barr Business Park in Stacksteads. The Company is well known for preserving local heritage with many of its former mills being renovated to enable employment use to continue.

The category winners and Project of the Year winner will be announced at the Awards-Ceremony and Dinner on the 3rd of May at The Point, Manchester. TV and radio comedian and author of the bestseller Round Ireland with a Fridge, Tony Hawks will be hosting the evening.

B & E Boys have been shortlisted to receive an award for Building Conservation in the North West for work at Village Farmhouse Dunham Massey.

Olympic Torch to light up Kingfisher Business Centre Rawtenstall.

The route for the Olympic torch for Rossendale has been announced and it will pass through the heart of Rawtenstall on Saturday the 23rd of June.

Kingfisher Business Centre is right in the heart of Rawtenstall and should be the perfect vantage point to see the torch bearer. Rossendale Borough Council is making arrangements for the day and has contacted Kingfisher Business Centre Rawtenstall to see if the car parking could be made available for the day.

Kingfisher Business Centre is situated just at the central traffic lights opposite Gerrys barbers and along side Madisons Wine Bar and the Sparkle Academy on Burnley Road. ISSL sign new lease and give St Mary’s a new lease of life.

St Marys Chambers Conference and Function Centre was recently leased to existing St Mary’s Chambers business ISSL. St Marys Chambers is better known as Rossendale premier venue for functions and conferences and has been host to some of the most notorious celebrities of the “noughties”. Derek Hatton, Paul Burrel, The Hamiltons and Nick Leeson to name but a few, have graced the stage at St Mary’s Chambers as well as former Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Tory leader William Hague and the now Prime Minister David Cameron.

St Mary’s Chambers was renovated in 1999 by B & E Boys and was formerly a Methodist Church. Built in 1856 by local mill owners, the Whitehead brothers, the church was used as an air raid gathering point during World War 2 by Lancashire County Council before being acquire shortly after by the Rossendale Senior Citizens. Unable to afford the upkeep of the building B & E Boys were approached in the late 1980′s before finally agreeing to totally renovation the premises providing office accomodation and the Conference and Function Centre whilst continuing to provide luxurious facilities for Rossendales senior citizens to dance.

ISSL who specialise in the design, build and hosting of web sites and have been a tenant at St Mary’s Chambers offices for a number of years.

B & E Boys have already held a number of successful events at St Mary’s since ISSL took over and have been impressed by ISSL’s determination to bring fresh ideas and improve the services offered at the venue.

St Marys Chambers office suites are home to a number of successful Rossendale based business and organisations including digital creative advertising specialist JGM Agency, facilities management consultancy Thomson FM,  Asahi Kasei Medical Group GMBH, and SWIIS Foster Care.

If you are looking for workshops, workspace or office space then you are welcome to call in to the launch of the Corn Exchange in the Centre of Rawtenstall opposite Gerrys Barbers and the old Fire Station on Burnley Road, and next to Kingfisher Business Centre.

From 8.30 am on Thursday the 26th January, Kingfisher Business Centre will be hosting one of its monthly Coffee Mornings and the launch where we will be inviting everyone to take a quick tour of the new space next door.  Over 30 people attended last months coffee morning, so its also a great opportunity to guage what is happening in the local business community.

As well being able to view the units you can also take a look at Kingfishers Meeting Rooms and Conference facilities which are available on an hourly basis. The centre is a 2 minute walk from the Town Centre and has ample FREE parking as well as all the facilities you would expect when hosting a meeting or conference.
