Regenerate Pennine Lancashire invite Boys onto expert panel to answer questions on Draft Planning Policy Framework

October 31st, 2011

B & E Boys invited onto select panel for Q & A session with Regenerate Pennine Lancashire.

B & E Boys were invited to join a select panel of experts to answer questions on the Draft Planning Policy and its implications on Pennine Lancashire. Barry Dean, Associate Director at B & E Boys joined a panel of experts which included Phil Kelly from Pettys, Caroling James from Trevor Dawson, Simon Prideaux, Head of Planning, Hyndburn Borough Council, Puil Megson, Head of Planning, Pendle Borough Council, and Steve Hoyle, Managing Director of Regenerate Penning Lancashire. The panel was tasked to answer questions from a number of business leaders on topics which included whether the existing planning framework hinder growth, and whether there is a need for changing the way we work.

After lengthy discusion Chris Standish from Regenerate Pennine Lancashire concluded that the changes to the planning system may not lead to significant growth after all and that the Communities and Neighbourhood Planning is a genuine shift in planning policy.

Barry Dean from B & E Boys and formerly of Morris Dean, commercial property agents in Rochdale, has been involved in moving properties from the Boys portfolio forward for regeneration and re-development as part of the Companies long term strategy in particular in Rossendale. B & E Boys own a number of former cotton and shoe manufacturing premises which the company has specialised in breathing new life into and enabling business to thrive in communities such as Waterfoot, Rossendale. However increasing legislative demands and the building age make these properties increasing less popular for business use. B & E Boys and Regenerate Pennine Lancashire are working together to provide a path for redevelopment of the mill sites.

National Trust project completed by B & E Boys

October 8th, 2011

Village Farm in Dunham Massey restored for the National Trust

B & E Boys Ltd has now completed the refurbishment and restoration of the Village Farmhouse, at Dunham Massey, Altrincham for The National Trust. Works began on the Village Farmhouse in April 2011, when B & E Boys Ltd were appointed as the Main Contractor by The National Trust .

The building is a three storey, five bedroomed, Grade 2 listed building, and all works were completed in keeping with the original materials.

The contract was a 20 week contract, which commenced with a full interior strip out of the property. This was then fully re-plastered, and has had the benefit of a new kitchen, and four new bathrooms.

Care needed to be taken whilst carrying out the interior strip out as The National Trust wanted to retain two feature alcoves which were in excess of 200 years old.

The property then benefited from full interior redecoration and flooring. The exterior of the property was fully re-roofed and re-pointed. External landscaping of the surrounding gardens finished this property refurbishment to a high standard.

B & E Boys has 50 years of experience working on historic and Grade 1 and 2 listed properties such as Townley Hall Burnley, St Marys Chambers in Rawtenstall and Toll Barr Business Park in Stacksteads.

It is now the intention of  the National Trust to rent this property out.

Boys re-cycle wood waste for winter heating.

September 30th, 2011

B & E Boys have started offering their wood waste for the increasing number of households that have wood burning stoves.

The construction industry has to complete Site Waste Management Plans on many of the projects it undertakes in order that waste is prevented, minimised and recycled. The Company already recycles card, plaster materials, metal and surplus construction materials. As well as this all staff at the Company receive information and training to ensure the correct amount of materials are bought through our buying department, who then ensure that the minimum amount of packaging is used, and that we utilise surplus materials from other projects thus preventing waste. When the company does incur waste materials that have to be disposed of then we use compactors to help reduce the amount of transportation required to take this to landfill.

The Company also carefully manages transportation of staff and materials to site to minimise the effect of its activities on the environment. This all forms part of the Company’s accreditation to the internationally recognised ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.

As from September the company is further trying to reduce its waste streams by offering waste packaging wood which will be cut up and bagged for use in wood burning stoves.

In construction, bulky items are often delivered on wood pallets for ease of transportation and movement around the site. Whilst the Company re-uses many of these pallets, eventually they become damaged beyond repair or unsafe to use.

Fire wood is now available to purchase at Kingfisher Rawtenstall and you can call 01706 836059 to arrange collection. The company also has a supply of logs from tree pruning.
